Solar Hot Water Heating
| Did you know that your water heater can account for the majority of your household gas bill? And an electric hot water heater can account for up to 30% of your entire electric bill. Whether you use gas or electric hot water heating, you have to heat the water and keep it hot
throughout the course of the day and night so that it's available when you need it. A solar water heater can save money by using the sun to heat your water with little monthly cost! The diagram at right shows a roof-mounted solar water heating system. A solar water heater is "passive" in that it does not actually create electricity. What it does, however, is collect the free heat from the sun to heat the water for your use. As the water is circulated through the roof-mounted solar collector panel, the sun heats the water. The water then flows down into the water tank. This replaces your current gas or electric hot water tank. The solar water heating storage tank includes a backup electric heating element for on-demand hot water. |
